Movie Monday #10
No rentals last week, but we hit the theater twice.
1) Barbie: This is a movie about how if Kens gave themselves permission to express their emotional needs in a productive way, they wouldn't have to hide behind Mojo Dojo Casa Houses and ugly leather furniture. I could watch it every day. They didn't have to vilify horses like that, but I still loved this movie. Barbie cosplays coming to a DragonCon near you this Labor Day weekend. Highly recommended!
2) Oppenheimer: I've never been overly interested in men's history so I actually didn't know who Robert Oppenheimer was: a man with a hat and a lot of well-earned guilt. Oppenheimer is what I call a Performance Movie, where the point of the film is to showcase the talents of an actor with incredible cheekbones (see also: Tár), and in that it was certainly successful. Every man who existed in 2022 is in this movie. Notable faces include Bernard the elf from The Santa Clause and Richard from Sex and the City. Rami Malek has a clipboard and something to say. Two women are also in this movie but they only had a budget to buy shirts for one of them. Oppenheimer was no Barbie, but I liked it. Recommended.
