2025 Hugo Award Eligibility

We are eligible for the Hugo Award for Best Fancast in 2025! After winning in 2023, we announced our permanent recusal from the category. However, after the validity of that win was called into question, we retracted our recusal. We would be honored if Worldcon members gave us another opportunity to participate in a fair awards process.

To that end, here’s what we did in 2024:

We released 15 episodes. We covered 6 Hugo winners for best novel, 1 best novella, and 2 winners for best short story.*

Author Redfern Jon Barrett joined us to discuss The Dispossessed, and we shared our previously unreleased pilot discussion of The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.

Just for fun, we also read The Wind Whales of Ishmael, watched Twilight and Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, and we had a friend quiz us on our past episodes. Our Star Wars versus Lord of the Rings debates grew ever more robust. We mentioned Moby-Dick as often as possible. We loved your reviews.

Kevin and Lori were thrilled to attend Worldcon in Glasgow, where we got to meet or reconnect with so many of the friends we’ve made in the SFF community. We shared our report to the podcast feed in September.

Machine-generated transcripts are available for all our 2024 episodes. Because checking and correcting these is a big task, we’ve made them editable by the public. Anyone who wants to help make the show more accessible can edit and improve them.

As always, we remain delighted by and incredibly grateful for the support of our listeners and the SFF community.
